What is your business, and what do you do? Humble Bee Flowers is a full service florist serving the Berwicks and surrounding communities with a focus on American-grown flowers and eco-friendly design (limiting use of non-biodegradeable or one-time use materials). I started out working from a home studio just outside downtown Berwick and moved last fall across town to my own space where I have more room to work and can welcome visitors (4 Coffin Lane, just off Route 4)!
Tell us about the “AHA! Moment!” that led you to start your business. I was passionate about local agriculture but didn’t see any growers focusing on cut flowers. I started out as a grower, but my art background crept back in. My love for design, combined with increased availability of local blooms, led me to focus on providing arrangements for everyday enjoyment and special events. I still grow what I can and love to tuck my own flowers into arrangements from spring through fall. I also dry flowers to enjoy the bounty of summer all year long.
What do you love about your job? Creating something beautiful for others, and the ever-changing palette of using what’s in season! Most of my business comes from people giving gifts to one another, and it’s really special to be able to facilitate that care. (Though I would love to see more people just treating themselves too!)
What makes you different from others in your industry? My focus on local, seasonal flowers is very unique. Most other commercially available flowers are imported. I make the choice to limit the air miles on what is ultimately a perishable product, and support growers in our local economy.
What’s your Service Area? For regular/daily orders, I deliver in a 20 mile radius from Berwick, Maine. Special events like weddings extend throughout Southern Maine and Central NH.
Where can customers learn more about your business? My website and social media (Facebook and Instagram @humblebeemaine). I also send a monthly (approximately) newsletter update.
What’s the best way to contact you for more information? Inquiries can be emailed or sent through my website.
