If you ask anyone around here what quintessential local place is “IT”… Where the food is good, dessert is a big part of the menu, where prices remain fair and portions are great… well, we have just the venue!
Fogarty’s has been a staple for both Rollinsford and their neighbors in South Berwick for a very long time… 60 years and still going strong!
Now this little down-home restaurant didn’t start out as a family restaurant. Some folks will fondly remember racing down the hill in the beds of pick-up trucks as children, eager to get a cone of soft serve vanilla or chocolate ice cream. (those were the good ol’ days!!) Larry Fogarty even remembers lines of kids 4-5 deep (im)patiently waiting for their chance to order a cone.
Launched in 1960 by Tom & Frances Fogarty, the one story building offered hot dogs, burgers & fries on their original menu, along with the aforementioned soft serve ice cream. Having a quick, hot and easy meal after a Little League baseball game is about as small town American as you can get!
During the 70’s, Dave Fogarty took over the restaurant with his wife Loretta, helping his aging parents retire but also keeping the community satisfied with stick-to-your-ribs home cookin’. The third generation of Fogarty’s owns and operates the restaurant to this day, so you can pop in to say hi to Larry & his wife Diane.
While the Ice Cream window was permanently shuttered in the 90’s, we happily encourage you to pop in and view their dessert case. The variety and selection alone has us drooling and daydreaming over here. Heck, just stop in for a meal of sweets… Life is short, eat dessert first, right?!
Fogarty’s has built a local die-hard following of dessert enthusiasts, thanks to their in house bakery offerings. Of course, ice cream is still on the menu! It’s not just soft-serve anymore… so pull up a chair and enjoy!
