We were listening to some of our favorite beats, and happened to (finally) download one of our favorite alternative rock station apps (yes, we are WCYY!) and boom… right there on the main page is this absolute stunner.
This article sourced is originally written by Chris Sedenka, and we think he did an awesome job.
Now we’re not kidding when we agree with Chris in saying this house is a Masterpiece. It literally looks like it was plucked out of Downton Abbey and plopped into Portland. Not just anywhere either, this home sits on none other than the popular Brighton Avenue, just minutes from the “Downtown District”. In short, it’s a really nifty part of town which we particularly love exploring when we go visit.
This home was designed by famed architect John Calvin Stevens in 1902, who is a well known and respected figure in town even to this day. You mention his name, and this home is immediately recognizable – bringing to mind the 6,000k+ square foot home featuring 7 bedrooms, 4 baths, 4 fireplaces, and so much more.
Entertain guests in the Great Room (yes, there’s one of those) which in this modern age would be fabulous to host a dinner party or simple get together. Don’t have a baby grand piano? That’s ok. Pretty soon we’re going to be able to project 3D images, and we’ve already got incredible sound thanks to systems like Bose and Amazon’s Echo, with on demand playlists and built in speaker systems.
Cook culinary delicacies for your guests in the roomy upgraded and gorgeous state of the art kitchen -not gonna lie, we’d love to get in there to do just that!
Don’t forget to look down – you’re certainly going to feel a bit guilty for covering these floors, because they’re literal works of art to walk upon themselves. From custom inlay work to incredible swaths of wood that almost feels sinful to walk upon… the flooring in this home is gorgeous.
Alternatively, don’t get a crick in your neck from gazing upwards at the intricate details found there either! From moulding designs, to light fixtures, to ceiling panels and designs… this house is a treasure trove of wonders.
Oh, wait… did we mention it has a library?
Bookworms beware… it has a cozy library, perfect for cozying up in an oversized chair on a cold winter’s day. We can feel it now, that warm fuzzy blanket keeping us warm, a hot mug of cocoa in one hand, a book in the other, watching the snow fall softly outside. Ahhhh, the New England Life is certainly only for certain folks, isn’t it?!
The third floor of this magnificent beast was converted into separate living quarters back in 1998, however it wouldn’t take much effort to reincorporate it back into the layout of the main house if the new owner was so inclined. We’re divided on the prospect – on one hand, it would make a killer short term rental or studio space, or even a home beautiful office. It contains three (3) of the seven (7) bedrooms.
Then again… three floors of majestic Victorian living in downtown Portland?
Yes please.
What’s your favorite feature?
P.S. We almost forgot to mention – this baby totally has a wine cellar, which is definitely unsurprising for such a mature beauty!
