Did you know that the Springvale Public Library is over 100 years old?! This institution has a rich history from it’s first librarians to it’s spice library available today. Some fun facts about the library and the building include:
- The first librarian was paid $15/year.
- The first Children’s Librarian at the library served for 27 years.
- The library didn’t have a telephone until the 1960’s.
- In 1989, the Friends of the Library was formed. Each July they host a book sale to benefit the library.
- Local history has always been a focus of the library.

Have you seen a spice library before? This unique offering is one of the things that sets the Springvale Public Library apart from the rest. They have 33 spices availabe for you to “check out”. They’ll give you a tablespoon to take home to try out the spice for yourself. The library also has recipes that you can try using the spices they offer. How cool is that?
Officially Fine Free
The library instituted the removal of late fees during the pandemic. They don’t want you to fear if there is an inability to pay of fear of accruing fines. Long overdue items are welcomed home with care and excitement.

If you want to check out library books but are unable to leave your home, not to worry! This offering allows everyone the enjoyment of books, both audio and paper, to everyone in the community. When they stop by to drop off your new picks, they’ll be happy to pick up your returns as well.
